  • Costing Model 2.0
    Slot 1: 1:00 - 2:00 PM | Slot 2: 2:15 - 3:15 PM | Slot 3: 3:30 - 4:30 PM |

    Presenter: Frank Healey, Healey Transportation

Session Description: : In addition to ISBOA’s aggressive defense of independent operators against ill-conceived RFPs, ISBOA’s input to the Ministry of Education has also focussed on the fact that school bus rates are unsustainably low (ISBOA's response to the 2012 Drummond Report - PDF) and are at risk of compromising student safety.  This session will give operators the tools to participate in discussions at the provincial and local level about the need for reasonable negotiated rate increases.

This session is a continuation from this year’s AGM “Costing Model 1.0 – Contract Terms” presentation by Vaughn Richmond.  Frank Healey will pick up where Vaughn left off, by deconstructing the input components of rates using the STEO rate sheet as an example.  Costing 2.0 will explore mark-ups, with a large focus on Human Resources and HR Management - a very special part of the relationship and value-added with consortia.  This session will be conducted as an interactive “bear pit” workshop so come prepared to work through your numbers and learn new approaches to costing.

  • MTO Community Transportation Pilot Program Details
    Slot 1: 1:00 - 2:00 PM | Slot 2: 2:15 - 3:15 PM | Slot 3: 3:30 - 4:30 PM |

Presenter: Jeannie Lee and Barb Breston, MTO Municipal Transit Policy Office

Session Description: MTO is planning to introduce a Community Transportation Pilot Grant Program (CT) to provide financial assistance to municipalities across Ontario for the planning and implementation of local, coordinated community transportation projects. It is a voluntary, application-based grant program, open to all incorporated municipalities in Ontario. Applications for funding can only be made by a municipality. Municipalities that apply are required to collaborate with at least one community organization, including, but not limited to, health agencies, social service agencies, other public transit systems and school bus operators, to propose a community transportation project. This is a pilot program that will allow the Ministry to explore the effectiveness of a community transportation model in serving a wide-range of Ontario communities. MTO staff will walk interested School Bus Operators through the program design and applications process.
