Driver Hours of Service

The number of hours a school bus driver can operate a vehicle and be on-duty in a day is regulated to ensure fatigue does not compromise the safety of passengers.  Ontario Regulation 555/06 sets out the daily, shift, cycle and record-keeping requirements.  A driver is exempt from completing a Daily Log Book if they start and return to the same location in the day and drive within a radius of 160 kms from that depot.  In those cases, drivers complete a Record of Duty Status.

As a benefit of membership, ISBOA has produced Record of Duty Status (RODS) Logbooks.  These logbooks makes it easy for drivers, their employers, and the MTO to track their hours.
